Lie in Ruins is a Finnish death metal band from Espoo, Uusimaa. Originally formed in 1993 under the name Dissected, the group went inactive for several years before reforming in 2002 under its current name. Their sound is rooted in traditional death metal, marked by heavy riffs, deep growls, and a dark, atmospheric tone. The band draws clear influence from early 1990s death metal while maintaining a distinctive Finnish character, often blending faster sections with slower, doom-tinged passages. After returning to activity, Lie in Ruins released the demos …Monuments (2005) and …Statues (2006), followed by their debut album Swallowed by the Void in 2009. Their second album, Towards Divine Death (2014), expanded on their earlier sound with longer and more layered compositions. Their most recent release, Floating in Timeless Streams (2020), refined their approach with a tighter and more direct production. The lineup has included Roni S. (vocals), Tuomas K. and Roni Ä. (guitars), Jussi V. (bass), and Aki K. (drums). Lie in Ruins has remained a respected name within underground death metal circles. While never widely known, their consistency, atmosphere, and adherence to the genre’s roots have earned them a solid reputation among fans of Finnish extreme metal.
