Lidija Percan is often called the Golden Voice of Istria, the Queen of the Istrian canzona, the Istrian birdie... Born in Rakalj, Croatia, a small town on the south of the Istrian peninsula, she started singing as a kid in a local church quire. Her career in show business started when she moved to Pula where she performed on local summer terraces and took singing lessons together with Radojka Šverko. The most important record company at the time, Jugoton, gave her a chance to make a record and that's when she become recognized on the (inter)national level. During her lasting career she collaborated with many important composers and songwriters - Nello Milotti, Stipica Kalogjera, Đorđe Novković, Boško Obradović, Đelo Jusić... recording hit songs such as "La mula de parenzo", "Da Trieste fino a Zara", "Mamma mia dami cento lire" that all share a common love for the land where she was born and raised and whose beauty Lidija Percan never let slip from her heart and voice. A famous Istrian poet wrote: Lidija Percan is the voice that made us love singing. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
