Artist
Leslie Fish (born in New Jersey in 1953; died 29 November 2025) was an American folk musician, author, anarchist and political activist. Along with the DeHorn crew, she was the first artist to release a commercial "filk" recording (Folk Songs for Folk Who Ain't Even Been Yet, 1976) - "filk" music being a mixture of song parodies and original music about subjects like science fiction and fantasy. Her second album (Solar Sailors, 1977) contained the now infamous song Banned From Argo, the song that has probably inspired the most parodies and variants in all of filkdom. Both of these albums, originally released on vinyl, were re-released on a single CD called Folk Songs for Solar Sailors. During her career, Fish won Pegasus Awards for many of her songs, including Best Original Folk Song, Best Female Folker, Best Fantasy Song, and Best Space Opera Song.
