Mr. van Laer was born in 1955 in New York, but grew up in Hamburg, Germany, where he was heavily influenced by classic european rock of the late 60's and early 70's, particularly the Who, Led Zeppelin, and Deep Purple. He later became enamoured with Frank Zappa, Steely Dan, and other more nuanced contemporary rock music. He formed his first rock band, Neutron Blonde, in the early 1980's in New York City and enjoyed a few brief moments of glory on the NYC new wave scene. In 1988 he retired from public playing to raise a family and has since been writing, recording and producing his own material in the studio. Mr. van Laer is a lifelong student of the Gurdjieff Work. He currently lives in Sparkill, NY with his wife, a lot of children, and other biota. His releases are available on itunes and rhapsody, or by direct order from the artist.
