Artist
Lee Dodou is one of the pioneers of the Burger Highlife tradition. An experienced singer before he left the shores of Ghana late summer 1979, Lee was known for his performances with groups like the Lantics, Police Band, Bisa Goma and Zantoda led by Nana Gyedu Blay Ambuley. In Berlin, Germany, he joined the group Fire Connection and worked with them for about 2years, then with the group U Know and with the vibrant rhythm section of Bus Stop, led by George Darko. It was with this group that he sung on the famous “Ako Te Brofo” recording and on the Highlife Time albums during the creation of the Burger Highlife as a music genre. When Kantata was formed in 1984, Lee Dodou was invited as a vocalist for the group. The group recorded memorable pieces such as “Akpeteshie”, “Odo Mpa”, “Saworoma”, “Akwankwa”, “It’s High Time”, “Get involved”, among others. Kantata was very successful and was signed on to Oval Records in London, later to Safari Ambiance in Paris and the Makosa Records of New York, then Pirana Records of Berlin. Lee Dodou went solo then played for Big Joes Nakasi Records. Lee Dodou now plays for Livin' Spirits, the Tikiman band and the Bubba Jammeh band as guitarist and has also been working on his own recordings.
