LE GRIFFE (French for 'the claw') were a NWOBHM band formed in 1980 in Stoke-On-Trent, Staffordshire, England whose initial release was the well received 'Fast Bikes' 12" 3-song EP, issued 1983 on the Bullet label. The group's recording line-up consisted of vocalist Chris Hatton, guitarists Paul Wood and Tim Blackwood (ex-Expozer), bassist Kevin Collier (replacing founding member Rob Moseley), and drummer Martin Allen. LE GRIFFE's sophomore release was the 'You're Killing Me' 12" single in advance of their 'Breaking Strain' mini-LP, both issued through Bullet Records in 1984. At the time of its release guitarist Tim Blackwood left the fold and was replaced by Amos Sanfillipo (who is credited on ''Breaking Strain' but did not play on the record) but the band dissolved early in 1985. Bassist Kevin Collier went on to join UK band Rogue Male and appeared on the 'First Visit' ('85) and 'Animal Man' ('86) albums, re-issued on CD by Poland's Metal Mind Productions in 2008. Original LE GRIFFE members Paul Wood and Rob Moseley are currently playing in the band To What End and have signed to independent label Rising Records.
