On September 11, 2001, the world had changed forever – especially for Los Angeles punk rock band Last Off The Bus. This marks the day that David Parke (Bass) and Jeff Pallotta (Drums) found Ryan Orenstein (guitar) to be the most qualified individual to join their still-untitled band. The name of the band is a fact that David and Ryan lived with from day to day while attending Hollywood High School. The boys both lived the farthest from the school with Ryan living in the west San Fernando Valley and David living adjacent to LAX. Since they were bussed to the Performing Arts Magnet school, they were the first students on the bus in the morning – both at 5:50 am. As Ryan and Dave were thinking of names for their new band, they came up with something they were proud of – First On The Bus. This had a nice ring to it and they could make the acronym FOTB. This name stuck for a few days but one day, the bus was running abnormally late taking David home and all he could think about was that he was always the last one off the bus. It rang in David’s head all night and he pitched it to Ryan the next day – plus Last Off The Bus was more of a lonely sounding name. LOTB was born. Dave, Jeff, and Ryan hooked up during lunch in whatever classroom or teacher would let them practice their one song – a NOFX cover – until David remembered the studio he had come across once while walking around Hollywood High – R+R practice studios.
