Four young men from Glasgow, consisting of Penelope Collegefriend (vocals/piano/bass), Magaloof Taylor (vocals/bass/piano), Gunthor Hunter (guitar) and Raga Wu (drums), whose name translates as 'slip of the tongue', are a seething blur of punk rock hairstyles, gothic mascara, razorsharp cheekbones and skinny fit pseudo-metal Lapsus t-shirts. "They have the best array of tunes in the 'goth-punk/classical hybrid' section at HMV" said Barfly magazine. Kerrang! described them as "exquisitely beautiful" and Nightshift magazine enthused "There can't be many bands out there prepared to mix up the intelligent hardcore of Steve Albini and the primal rage of The Birthday Party with Tori Amos, but remarkably they get away with it." Careering from seismic spasms to slowburning sadness, the Lapsus Linguae (pronounce: Lap-suss Ling-way) experience challenges and thrills in a manically intense kind of way. The fact that both Penelope and Magaloof are classically trained musicians should be alarming enough. The fact that what on paper looks like the ghastliest cross-cultural catastrophe sounds on record like the most invigorating musical hoedown yet invented in the new millenium is simply terrifying.
