Founded in 2007, Ladom Ensemble performs original compositions inspired by ethnic Persian, Balkan, and other music from around the world. Ladom Ensemble’s music and instrumentation explore both traditional and contemporary elements to create a unique 21st century sound. Pianist Pouya Hamidi, originally from Iran, is the co-founder and one of the ensemble’s composers. His music is inspired by both his Persian background and classical musical studies. Pouya’s musical background includes a Bachelor of Music in piano performance and composition from the University of Toronto. Accordionist Nemanja Pjanic, originally from the former Yugoslavia, is one of the composers for the ensemble and the ensemble’s co-founder. Nemanja’s music is greatly influenced by various musical styles from the Balkans. His musical background includes a Bachelor of Music in music education and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto. Cellist Marie-Cristine Pelchat St-Jacques, originally from Quebec, Canada, is pursuing a professional career in cello performance. Her musical background includes both a Bachelor of Music and a Masters of Music in cello performance from the University of Toronto. Percussionist Atalay Altinok, originally from Turkey, pursues a professional career in percussion performance.
