Artist
A dynamic threesome from central Michigan, LaSalle are post-rock balladeers featuring the husband/wife team of Mike & Katy Reed plus long time friend and drummer Dan Jaquint (Mike & Dan of Small Brown Bike fame). LaSalle begins where Small Brown Bike left off, capturing the same brand of catchy rock with punk rock roots and an indie aesthetic. The difference now is a certain maturity, and the diversity provided with male/female vocals. LaSalle's Thick Records debut, Expedition Songs, captures it all. In July of 2005, LaSalle recorded Expedition Songs at Detroit's Tempermill Studios with noted producer Dave Feeny at the helms. Feeny, who's best known for his pedal steel work on Loretta Lynn's latest album Van Lear Rose, honed LaSalle's work into a 45 minute journey through their unique musical landscape. Expedition Songs take advantage of LaSalle's differences; fast and slow, male and female, loud and quiet. Fans of Small Brown Bike may gravitate toward the more rocking numbers like "Little Kicks", "Vanishing Point" or "Oasis in the Sun"."Hurt for Long" is driving with spot-on harmonies and angular guitars. "Kissinger" chugs along with a classic call and response chorus and one of Dan's signature beat breakdowns. "A Prescription for His Social Life" also grabs the listener with the opening riff and ventures through a musical and lyrical journey. Other tracks take it down a notch, but with the same intensity. "Other Side of Night" is delicate and airy, with Feeny's pedal stee
