Artist
Kult Masek is the solo project of Prague-based DOEPFER obsessed musician Michael Nechvátal, who is known from a few other projects with relevance within the experimental music community in the Czech Republic and Slovakia - be it the modular-based duo Jasnovidec (with fellow synth magician Koroze) or the formation around Stoned-to-Death label 'inner circle' Raw Deal, which takes inspiration from 70s german motorik driven rock and translates it into a contemporary environment. Collaborating artists involved with Kult Masek are diverse and include names such as Koruth, Petr Vrba, Jan Kaspar, Molly and a few others. Kult Masek is quietly but steadily evolving in his sound and intensity of recorded and live-performed material. From a fascination with berlin-school like arpeggios and heavy organ backgrounds, Kult Masek is moving towards a more profound and meditative soundscape which dwells on texture and exploitation of the sonic possibilities of the modular system. On his latest release, Walnut Instrument/Ballet for Skeptics, an increasingly sophisticated effort to find the most organic synthesized sound is the leading inspiration. Whilst a re-visit to the artist's discography shows a clear development of timbres and topics, the basic principle of approach remains unchanged. Kult Masek sticks to simple tools of synthesis, sound creation and arrangement, perhaps in a continually reductive way. It is possible to label his output as purist or even minimalist.
