Around the end of 1984 Romeo (Drums), Roberto (bass), Fausto (Guitar) and Maurizio (Synthesiser) were a band called "Wall of Death" that was looking for a vocalist. In December of that year Dario Antonetti joined the band who then became known as Kryptästhesie. A few months later the rough and ready private release "Leaves Laughter", which had been recorded on a four track, was picking up reviews that described it as a balance between post-punk, dark new-wave and experimental psychedelia. 1985 and 1986 were spent composing new material and in the Summer of 1987 the band released a second cassette "Any Water Knows". This was an even more eclectic affair featuring Giovanni on tablas and cumbuc (a kind of Turkish banjo). By the end of these recording sessions Roberto (bass) had left the band which immediately returned to a quartet. From then on Fausto and Dario would alternate between bass and guitars. "Any Water Knows" sounded a bit more refined than the debut tape and continued the evolution of the electric compositions from long extended jams through to more acoustic moments. The cassette gained good reviews in the mainstream and undergound press and as a result the band managed to obtain gigs in Northern Italy. In 1989 Kryptästhesie released a self financed 7" that was given away with "Snowdonia" (a well known undergound fanzine) and sold via undeground contacts all over Europe.
