Kowloon Walled City is an American noise rock and sludge metal band formed in San Francisco, United States in 2007. They are known for a "deconstructed" heavy sound that emphasizes negative space, slow tempos, and intense emotional tension. The band takes its name from the legendary, densely populated district in Hong Kong, reflecting their themes of urban decay and industrial blight. Their sound has evolved from a more aggressive, sludge-heavy debut into a minimalist style that has been compared to artists like Harvey Milk, Slint, and Neurosis. A hallmark of their work is the use of "clean and clanky" guitar tones and a focus on how silence amplifies the weight of the music. Vocalist Scott Evans also serves as the band's primary producer and recording engineer. Current members: Scott Evans - guitars, vocals; Jon Howell (Ex Everything, Puig Destroyer, Tigon) - guitars; Ian Miller (Puig Destroyer) - bass; Dan Sneddon (Early Graves, Ex Everything) - drums. Former members: Jason Pace - guitars; Jeff Fagundes - drums; Julia Lancer (The New Trust) - drums. http://www.inthewalledcity.com User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
