Artist
Kooymans & Carillo was George Kooymans and Frank Carillo. George Kooymans (1948-2025) was a founding member, lead guitarist and songwriter of Dutch rock legends Golden Earring (1961-2021). Frank Carillo (1950) is an American rock musician who played in bands such as Doc Holliday, his own group Carillo and the duo Golden Carillo. The two had been friends for a long time, playing, writing and recording music together, on-and-off, since the mid-1990s. Carillo co-wrote several Golden Earring songs for the band's 2003 studio album, Millbrook U.S.A., and also for the debut album of Dutch rock singer Anouk, the multi platinum album Together Alone (1997). Recorded in Carillo's studio in Millbrook, NY, their album On Location (April 2010) was the duo's first collaborative album, released under the moniker Kooymans/Carillo. For more than twelve years it was generally expected to remain their only album, until Mirage was announced in May 2022. Recorded at several studios over a three-year period, their second album is formally credited to Kooymans & Carillo rather than Kooymans/Carillo. Hopefully these monikers will be merged by Last.fm one day. Mirage was released on 17 June 2022 and will be Kooymans & Carillo's final album, as George Kooymans by then suffered from the neuro-muscular disease ALS. He died on 23 July 2025.
