As a composer and conductor committed to developing new performance concepts for modern music, Konstantia Gourzi has initiated a variety of concert series and ensembles. She founded the ensemble attacca berlin and the international concert series zeitzonen (time zones), was the artistic director of ensemble echo in Berlin from 1999 until 2007 and established the ensemble oktopus for contemporary music at the Munich University for music and performing arts, which she continues to lead. In 2007 she created the network and ensemble opus21musikplus with the aim of bringing new music together with other art forms and musical genres in a boundary-breaking way. Because of her manifold activities and engagement, she is recognised as one of contemporary music’s most important mentors. Her compositions include film music, music theater, orchestral works, opera as well as numerous solo and chamber music works and have been performed at international festivals in Germany, France, Greece, Hungary, Japan, America and Israel. Important commissions have come from the State Opera Berlin, the Radio sinfonia orchestra Frankfurt, the Bavarian Radio orchestra, Musica Nova Israel, the Athens State Orchestra, the Europäische Wochen Passau, the Kassel Days for Contemporary Music, the Ex Novo ensemble Venezia , the State Opera Munich, the Archbishop Ordinariate - Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Munich and Freising and the Patrimonio Nacional of Spain, amongst others.
