Konk was a large Latin/Disco/Funk band who was popular on the Downtown scene in NYC in the early to mid 1980's. The band played regularly at the Mudd Club, Danceteria as well as performing at the Paradise Garage and the Loft. They released records on 99, Rough Trade, Sleeping Bag, Les Disques du Crepuscule, Celluloid and on their own Dog Brothers label. The band was started by Dana Vlcek and Shannon Dawson, who had been a charter member of Jean Michel Basquiat's band Gray. It's member's included G Love Jay (Geordie Gillespie), Angel Quinones, Jonny Sender, Scott Gillis, Sonic Youth drummer Richard Edson and Daniel Sadownick.
