Kombat Fudge rocks. Formed back in ’99 in the beach suburbia of Port Elizabeth, South Africa, the 3-piece band went straight to work on an original rock sound that brought together elements of punk, funk, reggae, blues, jazz, metal and rock ‘n roll. The original line-up of Zak Vincent, Peter James Murray and sibling, Roger Murray attracted diverse audiences to their distinct sound. The heart and soul of Kombat Fudge is found within the combination of Zak Vincent’s seering, rusty rock voice and Peter James Murray’s smooth, pop tone. Their quirky and edgy harmonies are layered over the tight lead and bass guitar riffs, their musicianship made obvious by the diverse array of songs they perform. Influences like Jimi Hendrix and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers float through the deep funk they produce, while pangs of Pantera creep into their hardest darkest sections, and when its time to just rock ‘n roll, in sneaks a little AC/DC tone. They sing about desire, passion, pleasure and pain with stories about places, people and situations. The funky ‘Reno Casino’ invites you to the orgy of desires inside a Nevada casino; in ‘Hick Funk’ a Texas redneck takes a big momma home! ‘Uneasy’ is an eerily told tale of lost love and in the ‘Candy Café’ the Fudge will be sipping champagne. Within 3 months of their first gig Kombat Fudge won the Friedjam.com Battle of the Bands in Port Elizabeth and went to Oppikoppi Festival to play alongside South Africa’s cream of the crop.
