about

Liverpool based bedroom musician Alan Williams, has been producing experimental, ambient and faintly avant-garde instrumentals for about 5 years. Adding to back bone beats are bluesy vocal loops, distant cries, strings, ambience and movie samples to build a somewhat graceful but eerie soundscape. Think in-your-face electronica driven by some kind of pseudo-testosterone fuelled aggression. Koala Parts sound marries the rapid-fire techno assault of Alec Empire's Digital Hardcore roster with the extreme experimental noise of Japanese band merzbow. Koala Part's music seems to be all over the place, yet the music itself remains somewhat homogeneous and the artistic direction is quite precise as can be, which means that each listener will hear in it different things related to their own musical experience. You might also hear electronica threads laced throughout, ambient stylings, Sonic Youth-esque guitar textures, a Nam June Paik-like fragility in the arrangements and an occasional surge of beats and rhythms. This mostly nonvocal music seems to balance itself over two extremes: the assured thickness of broken TV’s/Radios vs. the fragility of a noisy guitars, and the warmth of both guitars and strings vs. the clinical, mood-killing feel of electronic sounds, especially detuned radios. Easy listening this is not, as it wilfully (and playfully) antagonizes the listener, but it contains unsuspected moments of beauty. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-S
