King Fighter was a Guyana born calypso singer. Often referred to as the "Pyjama Suit Man" after one of his calypsoes, King Fighter was known for his wit and humour. King Fighter was ranked among calypso's legends, a title not often bestowed upon a non-Trinidadian, especially at a time when Sparrow and Melody ruled the calypso world tightly. He would dramatically snatch off his ever-present hat, showing his bald head, before bursting into "Come Leh We Go (Sukie)" - another favourite calypso piece. His "People Will Talk" also remains among the most requested vintage calypsoes. Born in Victoria Village, on the east coast of Guyana, Wilson got his name, King Fighter, because he was a boxer known for his fancy footwork. Fighter started out as a fisherman, then a boxer, before becoming a calypso singer. He started out singing boleros and love songs before switching to calypsos. One of his main influences was the Guyanese vaudeville singer Bill Rogers. As for calypso, his favorites were Kitch and Melody and he started singing in Guiana.
