Kimi Matias Räikkönen (born October 17, 1979) is a Finnish racing driver who raced in Formula One from 2001 to 2009 and from 2012 to 2021 and is the 2007 World Champion. He made his Formula One debut in the 2001 season with Sauber-Petronas, and joined McLaren-Mercedes the following year, replacing fellow Finn Mika Häkkinen and being partnered with David Coulthard. In Räikkönen's first race for McLaren, he finished third in the season-opening Australian Grand Prix. He took his first Formula One victory in the 2003 Malaysian Grand Prix. During his spell at McLaren, he was one of the main title contenders, finishing second in the 2003 and 2005 seasons. He joined Scuderia Ferrari for the 2007 season, being partnered with Felipe Massa. In Räikkönen's first season at Ferrari, he won six races, and managed to win the World Driver's Championship title, ahead of both McLaren drivers Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso with one point. In 2008, he finished third, behind Hamilton and Massa. After a largely disappointing 2009 season, when he only recorded one race win (at the Belgian Grand Prix) in an uncompetitive Ferrari F60, he left Formula One. During his Formula One hiatus, he participated in the World Rally Championship in 2010 and 2011 for Citröen and ICE 1 Racing, respectively.
