Kilo Art-of-Fact, born Julio Cordonnier, grew up around music all his life - but as a latin emcee in the United States, he struggled to find his place in the Hip-Hop world due to his nationality. Kilo was born in Santiago, Chile during Pinochet's dictatorship on November 6th of 1983, and seeking refuge in Europe, his mother and father started a band and began touring in Norway, Denmark, and even Sweden. Young Art-of-Fact grew up seeing his mother on stage. She was the lead singer of the band while his father played drums. The family returned to Chile after the conflict ended in 1990, but shortly after relocated to Dallas/Fort Worth, where Art-of-Fact fell in love with rap music and later learned and embraced the culture of Hip-Hop. He was introduced to the recording side of music by his would be cousin, Eric "Dialecto" Sanchez. Eric took Artie into a world he only knew existed in movies. Freestyling his way into his cousin's spanish rap group, "Sub-Americano", he became Kilo, and later added the Artefacto to his rap name to distinguish "Kilo" from its drug based relation. It was with Eric that a 16 year old Kilo learned how to produce beats on keyboard workstations. Kilo learned from his close friend Cristian Cuevas, who was part of Sub-Americano, how to create drum loops on his first drum machine, which he later went on and bought on his own, the Boss "Dr. Groove".
