Kids With Kites started off as a side project called The Aquatic Sea Life that eventually became a focus of two brothers, Nick and Joe Difazio. The band was started in a Chuck E. Cheese in 2006 with Joe and Nick on guitar and vocals. Their first show was in a sketchy bowling alley next to a strip club. There they played with Alex Maksymowicz who would eventually become their permanent drummer. Joe moved to bass and the band experimented with several other guitarists and eventually took on Chris Bergenheim and vocalist Hanna Sher. The band played a lot of local shows in and around Boston, and in the Summer of 2008 Nick and Hanna left the project. The band changed their name to Kids with Kites and recruited Katharine Seggerman, drummer of local band the Impatients, to sing. The band’s sound combines heavy bass leads and lush twee vocals with shoegaze guitar work and rolling drum beats. Whatever that means.
