Kid Mud was Sean Duncan, an indie rock vet formerly of Fiver, but with time, Kid Mud has seemingly morphed beyond "one man band" status into something larger than the sum of its parts. He has recruited friends Steve Brooks, Mike Reavill, Nick Ruiz, and Mike Watkins for new input to allow Kid Mud's creative sound to mature. With five diverse musicians from varying tastes and backgrounds, they come together to compile a sound of their own. Unlike earlier Kid Mud (recorded and live) the sound has taken on a new beast of delivering a full, rich sound while maintaining compelling dynamics. Kid Mud's sound brings both the soft and loud like some more well known bands, And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead and Built to Spill. "'Federated' is a particularly jumpy track off the album, which progresses in and out of Duncan’s pensive and astronomical hums... Another of the noteworthy tracks, '909 Garden,' features vocals from Jim Ruiz; the faint repetition of acoustic guitar under the chorus rounds of this duet reminisces the ambient side of Grandaddy’s catalog." -The Bay Bridged "At every turn, Now They Shut Us Down seems to throw something unexpected into the mix....
