Kevin Dean is an American trumpeter and organist. He was born in Mason City, Iowa in 1954. After receiving a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Iowa he received a Master's Degree in Jazz Pedagogy from the University of Miami, Florida. He then joined the faculty of St. Francis-Xavier University in Nova Scotia where he helped develop Canada's first university accredited Jazz studies program. Currently he is an Associate Professor of Music at the Schulich School of Music, at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. He has performed in concert and recorded with well-known artists such as Jimmy Heath, Benny Golson, Joe Henderson and Barry Harris. He has released six albums as a leader. In recent years he has begun to play and perform on the Hammond organ and has released one album with his Kevin Dean Organ Band: Live at Upstairs (2003).
