Based in Athens, Greece, KEPLER IS FREE creates a musical hybrid, blending soul-jazz of the '70s, modern alternative hip-hop and experimental electronica. A retired space telescope gave the inspiration for the bands name. Launched by NASA on March 7, 2009 its purpose was to discover Earth-sized planets orbiting other stars. Named by German astronomer, mathematician and astrologer Johannes Kepler was let "free" in space rotation after 9 years of operation,. Drummer Socrates Tsentoglou pumping inspiration from artists such as GoGo Penguin and Alfa Mist returned to Greece after a 2 years stay in Copenhagen in order to start a similar project. He founded the band in November 2018 and long time friend George Migdanis (electric guitar) immediately joined him. They were later accompanied by Vassilis Alexopoulos (bass), Nikiforos Nugent (keyboards) and at last by Spyros Zardas (trumpet). Coming from different musical backgrounds, the band members joined forces to create original compositions with a purely crossover orientation. Driven - among other things - by their mutual love for jazz and hip-hop, the band came with "Teegarden" - a 5-track album, that can be placed in the wider nu-jazz genre. It was released 1 June 2020 digitally and in limited number of numbered vinyl pressings for better sound quality ( 100 white and 200 black LP's ).
