Katherine Mary Dunham (born 22 June 1909, Chicago, IL; died 21 May 2006, New York, NY) was an American anthropologist, dancer, choreographer, actor, singer and author. She researched the cultural and musical traditions of the African diaspora countries and supervised recordings such as those on the 1956 album Katherine Dunham Presents The Singing Gods – Drum Rhythms Of Haiti, Cuba, Brazil.
