Kasha Nasha is a new Balkan Beat Band from the Netherlands, playing Balkan Beat music, Bulgarian Dance Tunes, Gipsy Tunes, Klezmer Music, other Eastern-European traditionals and own compositions. Strong jazz, rock, folk and even metal influences. The band founded by clarinettist Gottfrid van Eck, former metal band Dis members Remco Menting (drums) and the two brothers Daniël (guitar) and Ben (violin) Mathot joined, Kai Ramati plays the bass and Michiel Ockeloen the accordion. Influences: John Zorn, Klezmer music, Balkan music, Amsterdam Klezmer Band, Mazzeltov, Shtetl Band Amsterdam, Vilde Katshke, etc. Gottfrid van Eck regularly writes new music for the band, Ben Mathot recently wrote "High Speed Shoarma eating contest", a prestissimo tune in 6/8 meter with an Irish Folk-like part in it. As in Jazz, members of the band like to play solo's over the musical themes. May 28 2009 Kasha Nasha gave its first performance at Sju Jazz stage Utrecht. People were dancing and the evening turned into a real party. Later concerts in May and June 2009 in Rotterdam (Exit), Vlaardingen (Café D'Oude Stoep) and Amsterdam (de Badcuyp) were succesfull, each concert turned into a dance-party.
