Karin Hammar is a celebrated jazz trombonist and composer from Sweden, born 1974 in the northern town Boden in Sweden. As a solo artist and frequent soloist in smaller ensembles, she has toured the world including the U.S., Brazil, France, and South Africa among other places, and has worked with international jazz stars such as Kenny Werner, Tim Hagans, Steve Swallow, Gary Burton, Bob Brookmeyer, Maria Schneider, and Nils Landgren. Karin studied at the Royal Conservatory of Stockholm between 1994-1999, and has freelanced as a fulltime musician since 1997, receiving numerous awards. In 2004, she was the first receiver ever of the prestigious Swedish jazz award in the singer Alice Babs’ name. Karin’s CD “With Friends”, consisting of her original music, received a warm welcome by Swedish press when it was released (fall 2004). In 2007, the Karin Hammar Quartet was formed, and their first CD “Everyday Magic” was released in 2009 by German label Skip Records, including original compositions by Hammar. The Daily News in Sweden (Dagens Nyheter) wrote that the record consisted of "modern, accoustic jazz with groovy- as well as lyricial qualities" (Nov. 18, 2009). The quintet Sliding Hammers, which Karin led between 1997 and 2008 with her sister Mimmi Hammar – also a trombonist – has released 4 CDs.
