Kapitan Da was formed in 2004 firstly as Autopilot, next as Polen before finally settling on "Kapitan Da". The name taken from an unfortunate unemployed inhabitant of Flint, Michigan who after losing his job and later his mind, named himself Captain Dah. As the group was founded in Poland, it was decided to 'Polerise' the name. The group is extremely versatile. Despite being a four-piece band consisting of 2 guitars, lead vocalist, backing vocals, bass and drums, each member of the group is able to play a number of instruments, thus enabling them to change instruments between songs and vary the sound. Generally the songs are in English, though there are others in Polish, French and German. Gareth Saunders is the chief-songwriter, however together with other band members the songs are fully arranged. 2004 was a year of hard work, with the band busy arranging new songs and making occasional live appearances, whereas 2005 was the breakthrough year as a demo recording of 2 songs hit the airwaves around Poland and the group signed to SP Records. 2006 found the group hard at work, recording their first album, eponymously titled "Kapitan Da" which was officially released at the end of December. As their first single "Sliding" is currently enjoying regular airplay on the main radio stations around Poland, it seems the group will enjoy 2007 with many more live performances and their first video out in January.
