Bassist and composer Kamil Erdem was born in Ankara in 1959. In addition to being the leader of Asia Minor, he is an instructor in the Department of Music and Performing Arts at Yıldız Technical University. Erdem was a member of Oriental Wind from 1981-1986, and a guest for the Egyptian group Sharkiat in 1995. In 2001, he released the solo album A Tale of Bass, in which he projects his impressions of the music of various countries in compositions for solo bass, using several techniques he developed himself. Mr. Erdem has toured extensively with Asia Minor and other groups, and has performed with artists such as Okay Temiz, Lennart Aberg, Tuna Ötenel, Joe Lee Wilson, Kirk Lightsey, Janusz Szprot, Anatoli Vapirov, Mathias Schubert, and Fathy Salama.
