Artist
Junior Blanks were formed in 1996 when London-based indie/hip-hop act Collapsed Lung lost their guitarist. Jim Burke (who has also recorded acid house-oriented dance music as Sgt. Rock and more recently resurfaced as Mr.B The Gentleman Rhymer) took care of vocal duties with Anthony Chapman (DJ Scissorkicks) and Johnny Dawe (one half of Oskar) also on board. The change of name was accompanied by a distinct change in style as Junior Blanks' electro and pop interests came to the fore and the indie-hop vibe of the Lung was less prominent. Their first release, the "All About Beats : F&B Remixes" 12" EP surfaced in 1997 on Fused & Bruised records, with a sister release on City of Angels in the US. The recording of an album was then hampered by studio closure and the fall-through of a record deal and the next time Junior Blanks are heard from is in 2003, releasing two 7" singles on their own label (Vandelay)- "Tramps Fuzz & Publishers" and "Slobs Are Gods". Despite the support of the late John Peel sales are minimal and this, coupled with band members' personal situations eventually leads to the disbanding of Junior Blanks in 2006.
