about

Junior Bear is a local rock band in Tampa, FL. Johnny Harris is the lead vocalist and guitarist, Morgan Burgess plays the drums, and Luis Barroso is the bassist. Their influences include many modern indie and rock bands such as the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Kills, Interpol, The Strokes, The Dead Weather, The Black Keys, The White Stripes, Queens of the Stone Age, Best Coast, Vampire Weekend, and Death From Above 1979. All current members have been in and out of other band formations with friends. In earlier days, Harris was involved with rock bands that bordered on parody, such as The Orange Leaves, Robot Face, and Maximum Pants. Later efforts were more straight-laced, such as Six Bullet and most recently, Red Whale. Due to members of each aforementioned band moving out of town or out of state, Johnny finally teamed up with current bandmate and former schoolmate, Morgan Burgess, to form Junior Bear. They recruited former Red Whale/Six Bullet bassist, Luis Barroso, to complete their group. Currently, they are working to record a demo and are focused on playing casual sets in the local Tampa area. They frequent the Proud Pony Lounge in Riverview, FL and Pegasus Lounge in Tampa, FL near USF. So far they have independently recorded and released two demos, "Leash" and "Comb".
