Jules Verdone is originally from Rochester, NY. She attended Syracuse University where she studied journalism. After graduating and working as a waitress at night while trying to build a journalist's resume as a "stringer" and copy editor for a number of newspapers throughout Central Upstate New York. She moved to Baltimore, MD where she worked as counselor in an AIDS prevention and treatment organization. Living in Baltimore was difficult and rewarding (listen to the track "Baltimore or Less"). Jules later moved to Boston, MA where she took up copy-editing and resumed her journalistic aspirations by contributing to The Boston Phoenix, especially contributing pieces related to the live music scene and the community growing around it. It was here in Boston that she made her first anxious forays into performing her own music (in her first stage performance she kept her back turned from the audience) -- always playing only her own songs and accompanying herself on electric guitar. Jules rapidly gained confidence and developed a unique and engaging stage presence. She also adopted a personal "signature" stage costume; sleeve-less, knee-length "mod" dresses. Jules' talent for clever phrasing goes way beyond the over-used term "word play." Her lyrics are intelligent, honest, playful and deceptively complex. Her music is simple and terribly effective. She has very keen literary interests, mostly ranging toward post-modern American literature. Jules' sound can be compared to early
