Judy Street was born in Indiana in 1949. She is best known for "What," a 1968 single that has had huge enduring popularity among Northern Soul fans. When "What" was released, it went nowhere and was completely forgotten. Around 1973–1974, DJs at Wigan Casino discovered the 45 in a box of U.S. cut‑outs. They started playing it, and it became a dance‑floor anthem. Judy, who no longer even had a copy of the song, was reportedly stunned by its new-found popularity.
