Josianne Paradis was born in Montréal, Quebec. She took singing and xylophone lessons in primary school and started studying classical music in secondary school. In 1997, she wrote her first song. In 2000, she started studying jazz singing at Concordia University. She finished her studies at l'École nationale de la chanson de Granby in 2004. In 2006, she won a singing competition at the Festival en chanson de Petite-Vallée. Josianne Paradis released her first self-titled album on September 3, 2008. She went on tour as Tricot Machine's opening act. Her influences include Camille, Sarah McLachlan, Fiona Apple, Richard Desjardins, and Barabra.
