Artist
Born and raised in the small coastal village of Elliston, on South Australia’s rugged West Coast, Joshy Willo has been honing his musical talents with a myriad of local musicians and teachers pretty much since he can remember. Beginning his musical journey with drums at age 6, when a primary teacher became annoyed with his constant tapping during class and recommended to his mother that he should try the drums. This was followed by the acoustic guitar at 9 years old and in the same year he became the lead singer in the school band. Throughout his school years in Elliston and St. Joseph’s (Port Lincoln) he bounced between guitar, drums and vocals in school bands and was constantly present in various bands around his local community. Joshy’s style is quite diverse but falls comfortably into the rootsy/folk genre. With warm vocals which often paint pictures of the beautiful natural environment he has grown up in, and whispers of the trials and tribulations of relationships and life in an isolated pocket of Australia’s vastness. Warm, happy ukulele riffs accompanied by melodic vocals and swirling harmonies make Josh’s songs beautiful to listen to both on a musical and story telling level. Josh puts his love for music down to his family upbringing and the openly, artistic, close-knit and supportive community that exists in Elliston. Live performances can see him swapping from ukulele to harmonica, slide guitar and back to acoustic guitar during a set. Not being overly good at any
