Joseph Kelemen (born 1957 in Budapest) is a Hungarian organist, Catholic church musician and interpreter of 17th century music. Joseph Kelemen studied at the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest. In 1980 he emigrated initially to Switzerland. Kelemen began studying at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel and focused primarily on the reproduction of early baroque music of the 17th century. Postgraduate studies in Professor Harald Vogel's organ class at the Bremen University of the Arts followed. In 1982 he emigrated to Canada. There he dedicated himself to studying philosophy at the University of Toronto. At the same time he acquired Canadian citizenship. After completing his master's degree in philosophy, he came to Germany in 1986 and is currently the main organist at St. Johann Baptist in Neu-Ulm. Kelemen is considered a proven specialist in the field of “old fingering”. His interest is in German organ music of the 17th century, in particular Johann Jakob Froberger, Kerll, Muffat, Matthias Weckmann and the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. As an international lecturer in his field, he gives interpretation courses for organ literature from the 17th and 18th centuries. There are several CD recordings and radio recordings by him.
