Jorge Degas was born in 1953 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He has been busy as a professional musician since 1970. As an autodidact, Jorge has been working his way up from his humble beginnings in Brazil to become an acknowledged and interesting electric bassplayer. He has appeared with artists like Al Di Meola, Bob Moses, Robertinho Silva, Paulo Moura, Martinho da Vila and Alceu Valenca - in Brazil, Europe, Africa and South America. During periodes he has been touring intensively and has played at the "Montreux-festival", the "Free Jazz" and "Rock in Rio" in Rio de Janeiro, on big festivals in London, Paris, Copenhagen, Berlin, Nice, Nyon, Cascais and many other places. Degas has participated on hundreds of CDs as studiomusician and guest-artist - and has composed music for film and TV. After setteling down in Denmark in 1987 he began spending more time on developing his own personal stile on the bass and he is a very active composer both for his own recordings and for other artists to record. He has recorded 13 CDs in his own name. (See the discography) Robert Kaye from the magazin "Bassplayer" says : "I was awestruck with his bass playing… I have never heard anything like that before.
