Artist
Jon Astley is a British record producer who recorded and released two albums as a singer-songwriter in the late 1980s. His most commercially successful song was "Jane's Getting Serious", later popularized by a Heinz ketchup television commercial. As a producer, he is best known for his work with The Who (co-production with Glyn Johns of the 1978 Who Are You album, and the remastering supervision for most of the group's '90s back catalog CD reissues). However, many Who fans have been unhappy with the results of his work, especially with some of the production treatment on the Live At Leeds Deluxe album, which forced Townshend to make a public statement in Astley's defense. He also has produced albums for Eric Clapton and Corey Hart, and has mastered records for George Harrison, Tori Amos and Arms of Kismet. Jon Astley, by way of sister Karen, is the ex-brother-in-law of Who guitarist Pete Townshend, as well as the brother of recording artist Virginia Astley and son of noted composer Edwin "Ted" Astley.
