Italian born and New Jersey raised, John Matarazzo began his music career studying piano and guitar, leading him to work as a musician, studio session worker, supporting tour artist and producer for many pop and world music artists. After landing a music publishing deal with Cheery Lane Publishing, John was fortunate to have worked as a guitarist with Ike & Tine Turner, and later for Sly Stone. Being around many musicians, John found himself around the studio more frequently, where he was asked and humbly accepted studio session work for the likes of Herbie Hancock, Tito Puente, Weather Report and Bob Dylan. John then began working in the studio as a session musician and engineer with American bassist, producer and record label owner, Bill Laswell where they eventually teamed up to form Subharmonic Records that released a handful of Bill’s experimental ambient, dub and electronic works. As a producer himself, John recorded reggae/dub stars such as Sly & Robbie, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry and the Heptones. On the world music side, John produced recordings for the great and late Ravi Shankar and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. John also has gained executive producer credits for Buckethead, Material and Painkiller.
