John Louis & the Midwest started as the solo project of frontman John Louis. Louis recruited Jason, Jarrod, and Caleb as his backing band. The group, still functioning as John's solo project, released the Catalyst EP as a completely independent release in spring 2014. After beginning to play shows, the group felt that it was in the best interest of the music to graduate from a solo project into a full band. Thus, John Louis and the Midwest was born.
