John Girdwood founded the OMIA Foundation in 2007. "OMIA" stands for "Outside Movement Inside Academics." During the foundation's easrly years, Dr. Girdwood used Last.FM as a vessel to distribute new music, video, and content for the OMIA Foundation. In 2016, Dr. Girdwood learned that multinational corporation CBS owned Last.FM and had full control of the original content that was posted on his and the OMIA Foundation sites.
