Artist
There are at least two artists known as Joaquín Díaz. 1) Joaquín Díaz González (b. 1947, Zamora) is a Spanish musician, folclorist and music producer. He has recorded 70 albums and published more than 50 books on various aspects of oral tradition (romances and songs, stories, folk sayings etc.) and over 200 articles and essays. Since mid-1960s, he has been performing on stage and giving lectures in almost all Spanish universities and many others in Portugal, France, Italy, Germany, Netherlands and the United States. In 1976 he stopped making live appearances to engage fully in the popular culture research, especially in the Community of Castilla y Leon in Spain. 2) Joaquin Diaz is a diatonic accordion player from the Dominican Republic whose repertoire is a mixture of traditional and original tunes characterized by exhilarating syncopated rhythms. Diaz resides in Montréal, Québec, Canada. He has recordings on the Arhoolie, Merengue and Disques Nuits D’Afrique labels.
