Joan Gispert Guinjoan (born Riudoms, Bass Camp, 1931) is a Catalan composer of contemporary music. Until the sixties he acted as a concert pianist, and from that time devoted himself to composition, especially after making contact with French avant-garde music in 1964. He has conducted prestigious orchestras in Europe and America and has received several awards including the National Music Prize awarded by the Ministry of Culture in 1990 and the National Music Prize awarded by the Generalitat of Catalonia in 1995, was also a finalist for the Award World Record IRCA (New York). On 3 November 2004, debuted at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Gaudi's opera, with libretto by Joseph Maria Carandell. On November 3, 2011 the National Auditorium in Madrid hosted a concert in honor of his figure, on the occasion of his 80th birthday.
