Jimmy O'Bryant

Jimmy O'Bryant (May 15 1896 - Juni 24, 1928) was an American jazz clarinetist, saxophonist and bandleader. O'Bryant, who was often compared to Johnny Dodds, played in 1920 and 1921 with the Tennessee Ten, then in 1923 in a formation with Jelly Roll Morton and W.C. Handy and in 1924 with King Oliver. From 1923 to 1926 he recorded with Lovie Austin's Blues Serenaders, often together with Tommy Ladnier on trumpet, and in 1924 he played with Ida Cox. He also had his own recording sessions for Paramount Records with his washboard band, in which also played the pianist Jimmy Blythe. He died in 1928 at the height of his career.
