Artist
Jim Cole began practicing harmonic overtone singing in 1991, inspired by David Hykes & the Harmonic Choir's Hearing Solar Winds. Also inspired by the reverberant cistern recording of Pauline Oliveros' Deep Listening Band, he discovered an empty water tower in which to develop Spectral Voices' signature overtone music. In 1996 Jim received an artist fellowship award from the Connecticut Commission on the Arts, which supported the production and release of Spectral Voices' debut CD Coalescence. Jim Cole & Spectral Voices' music features harmonic overtone singing, wherein each person sings two or more notes at once - also known as throat singing. Spectral Voices' music has been described as mystical, wondrous, achingly poignant, contemplative, ethereal, relaxing, transcendent, hypnotic, powerful, primal, soothing, intense, meditative and sublime... http://www.spectralvoices.com User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
