Jim Altamore is a versatile jazz singer of popular standards from what is known today as the Great American Songbook. "License to Swing" is the name of Jim’s debut cd. A collection of American standards set to a swing tempo. Jim pays a heartfelt thanks to some of his predecessors like Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole and Bobby Darin. He stays true to their fashion and keeps the finger snapping, swing feel in songs like “Learnin’ The Blues”, “Route 66” and “Beyond The Sea”. Jim incorporates elements of both Sinatra and Basie in his singing style. He swings his face off but does it in a manner that is never over the top. This technique that has earned Jim the nicknames “Mr. Smooth” and “The Iceman”, from fellow musicians. Come and listen to a vocalist who’s style is timeless. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Jim grew up during a time of transition......the music world was changing with the arrival of the Beatles. However, Jim’s family always appreciated the true American music of jazz and swing. At a young age Jim’s dad kept him in touch with the great singers of his era like Sinatra, Ella and Bennett. Jim’s indoctrination in the world of music started on the right path….and it never changed! When Jim was 10 years old his father introduced him to the music of Count Basie. Jim immediately locked on to the infectious tempos of the “swingin’est” band of all time. Jim incorporates elements of both Sinatra and Basie in his singing style.
