Jezebelle were a British all-female hard rock/metal band who existed for around five years in the late 1980s and early 1990s. During their brief heyday the band underwent a number of line-up changes and even changed their name twice. They adopted a non-glam, ballsy approach to music that recalled earlier punk sensibilities and which fitted in with the ethos of the contemporaneous riot grrrl movement in the USA. The group, which had a largely thrash and NWOBHM influenced sound whilst looking to punk icons such as The Slits and Siouxsie for inspiration in terms of image and attitude, featured H Stewart on vocals, Zaz Richards on guitar, Maggot Simpson on drums and TC on bass as its seminal line-up. The band was established in 1988 when H and Zaz, who played together in the Voodoo Dollies, decided to establish their own band in London (H was Scottish, Zaz from Kent). They were joined by TC as bassist with a drummer called Sue and a rhythm guitarist by the name of Hannah. Sue, who had a day job as a firefighter, left soon afterwards when she injured her back on duty and was replaced by Maggot, another Scot. The band spent much of 1989 touring the pub and club circuit, before Hannah left the band due to "creative differences" (largely the fact that her tastes ran to mainstream rock).
