Growing up in a home where Nina Simone, The Doors and Marianne Faithfull were given a lot of “air play”, Jess was exposed to a wide variety of music from an early age. Her musical influences include Nelly Furtado, Coldplay, Janis Ian and jazz great Nancy Wilson. Jess began studying piano at age 5 followed by the clarinet, trumpet and baritone horn; this, along with harmonizing a cappella with one of her sisters to pop songs on the radio, created a strong base from which Jess developed as an artist. It’s clear from her music and her presence both on and off stage that Jess King is a young woman full of hope, strength, sensitivity, and conviction. Although the distinctiveness and depth of her voice allow her to transcend genres, Jess stays within the wide boundaries of pop music, while pushing the edges. Live performance has led Jess King from her home city of New York to other major cities including Tokyo, Hong Kong, London, Paris and San Francisco.
