Artist
Jenny Sturgeon is a Scottish singer-songwriter from north-east Scotland. Her music combines traditional folk song with new compositions while her lyrics come from folklore, historical events and personal experience as a biologist. As well as solo work, Sturgeon regularly plays as a duo with Jonny Hardie (Old Blind Dogs, Clype) on guitar and fiddle and also in a line up with Hardie, Davy Cattanach (Catford, Old Blind Dogs, Up in the Air) on percussion and Grant Anderson (Brothers Reid) on double bass. She is also a member of Northern Flyway and Salt House. In addition, Sturgeon is involved in several projects including working as a music workshop facilitator in primary schools, collaborating with Aberdeen-based artist and fabric designer Helen Ruth and writing music for a celebration of the Isle of May National Nature Reserve. Sturgeon co-ordinated a songwriting project in conjunction with FitLike Records called 'Even in Winter', for which female musicians from different genres wrote songs inspired by the women of Aberdeen. Sturgeon has featured on numerous albums and including working alongside Simon Gall and Jonny Hardie as a guest with Clype.
